Fort Tryon is located between Fort George and Inwood in upper Manhattan, near the Hudson River. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began acquiring private parcels in 1917 as part of his vision of developing a beautiful park with majestic views of the Hudson River and Palisades for the public. He enlisted the Olmsted Brothers to design the park which was eventually open to the public in 1935. The park is home to architecture such as The Cloisters, native plants, and animals.
