LOCATION: Central Park.

DESCRIPTION:

Our first Plant ID walk for June will be located at Central Park!

We are doing 2 plant walks each month to accommodate as many members as we can! Please only register for only 1 Plant ID Walk during this month.

This is an early summer hike. Please be prepared for the weather as well as insects.

Central Park is an Urban Park between the Upper West Side and Upper East Side of Manhattan. It is known as the first ever landscaped park in the United States, designed and constructed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (The same men who designed Prospect Park). The original encompassing neighborhood and infrastructure, including Pre-Civil War African American settlement “Seneca Village”, was seized through eminent domain in 1857, and the first section of the park was open to the public in 1858. The remainder of the park was completed in 1876. During our hike, we will learn about identifying plants, the native flora, basic botany, applications for food, medicine, etc!
