We Need Your Help

Autistic Adults NYC depends on community support to operate. We know many Autistic adults face financial insecurity, which is why, since our founding, membership has always been free. We are committed to keeping our community accessible, with free events and free participation options whenever possible.

But the reality is that our organization cannot continue operating this way without more support. Since the beginning, AANYC has relied heavily on unpaid labor, and additionally, our monthly expenses exceed our monthly revenue. The way we have been operating is not sustainable long-term.

Without additional steady support, we may no longer be able to maintain the level of free programming we currently offer. We may be forced to cancel planned community events such as parties, art classes, casual meetups, and large public programs. We could also lose access to our office space, virtual platforms, struggle to book venues and community spaces, and would likely need to significantly reduce the number of events we offer and begin charging for programs that are currently free.

If we reach our fundraising goal (at least $2000/month), we can continue operating, growing, and serving the Autistic community in NYC. If we exceed our goal, we can expand our programming and begin paying staff for the work that has been done voluntarily for years, including compensating our Executive Director Sy’Aire for the enormous amount of labor required to keep this organization running.

We are running a membership campaign through July 24th, AANYC’s 4-year anniversary. We’re asking community members to become recurring supporters before that date so we can reach our sustainability goal, continue offering free and accessible programming, and enter our fifth year of operation in a strong and stable position.

Right now, only 6% of our members are monthly/annual supporters. Even small donations make a huge difference: as little as $2 a month can have a meaningful impact. Consider the other subscriptions or memberships you value in your daily life, whether that’s a gym membership, Meetup dues, Netflix, or other recurring services.
