DESCRIPTION:

Our second Plant ID walk for September will be located at Van Cortlandt Park!

We are hosting 2 plant walks each month to accommodate as many members as we can! Please register for only 1 Plant ID Walk (Sept 7th or Sept 28th) this month.

This is a late summer plant walk in a forested area. It is highly recommended to wear long-sleeve clothing for protection against insects or plants.

Van Cortlandt is NYC’s 3rd largest park, sitting at a whopping 1,146 acres! Located in The Bronx, this park was named after the Van Cortlandt family, who were prominent in the area during the Dutch and English colonial era. Playing fields and playgrounds surround the old-growth forest, with multiple streams and the boroughs largest freshwater lake. There are plenty of hardwood trees, woodland and wetland plants, as well as animals ranging from wild turkey’s, skunks, and even eastern coyotes.
