LOCATION: Chelsea. This is an accessible space and we are on the first floor.
DESCRIPTION:
Do you get overstimulated just walking through Manhattan or riding the subway? Do you struggle with sensory overload at work/school and don't know how to handle it? Do your sensory issues cause a lot of stress/anxiety in your day-to-day life?
Join us for our Sensory Experience Workshop! We will go over the Autistic sensory experience: What sensory processing issues can look like, handing over/under stimulation, how our sensory experiences relate to stress/anxiety, emotion regulation, and more.
For the first part of the event, you’ll get to explore and test different sensory and tools and devices, including earplugs, headphones, different sensory/stim toys, colored glasses, coloring sheets, and more. As we get settled in, we’ll go over the basics of sensory processing, and discuss some specific techniques that have worked for us, such as breathing exercises, specific clothing/tools, meditation, DBT skills, etc. Then we’ll leave time for questions, discussion and more exploring.
This workshop will be recorded to create a resource for members! Please note that we’ll be recording audio from this workshop (not including introductions) to post publically on our website.
